5 dead after Amtrak train derails in Philadelphia

An Amtrak train traveling from D.C. to New York derailed partially in Philadelphia, killing at least five passengers as multiple cars toppled over Tuesday night. 243 on board, including five crew members, roughly 50 were injured. Sixcritically. The wrecked train lifted and bent tracks near the 2200 block of Wheatsheaf Lane around 9 p.m. ET. Seven cars, including the engine, are in "various stages of disarray," Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter said.
"It is an absolute disastrousmess," Nutter said."Never seen anything like this in my life."
Smoke billowed through the mangled mess of metal as passengers frantically attempted to exit the train, some on their knees, others sliding down the sides.
"We have train cars that are completely overturned, on their side, ripped apart," Nutter said. “One of the cars is perpendicular to the rest of the cars. It’s unbelievable."
